christmas chickens, but it's not what you think!

Yes, this post is all about Christmas chickens but it’s not what you think! You’re thinking crispy skin, tender white meat smothered in creamy gravy and devoured with a roast potato or three. Aren’t you?

Well, if that’s the kind of Christmassy post you’re after then you’ve come to the wrong place, today at least.

Today it’s all about our gorgeous little Sunny and Sweet Pea, alive and well with no pre-heating oven in sight.

They are such cuties and I can’t resist popping them around a Christmassy prop or two. Sunny just sits there and bathes in the attention. He sat on that ladder, complete with Christmas lights, and didn’t move until we took him to his next possie. He’s such a sweetie and his Dad and brother were exactly the same. The most affectionate, placid roosters you’ve ever met. Unfortunately Sunny is the last of his line still living but II ‘m hoping that maybe one day soon we’ll be able to get another little Sunny baby to continue this gorgeous line of buff Pekins. They are not show quality as they are on the small side and lack the fluffiness that good quality Pekins have but we reckon we’ve scored the jack pot because their natures are just so adorable.

Sweet Pea, on the other hand, is pretty impatient. She’ll sit there for a little minute and is loveable and obliging enough but then she quickly gets restless and is ready to move on. The flies were full on that day and so she was doubly distracted by the possibility of food in such easy reach. We managed to capture a little bit of love bird togetherness before she hopped off her boxy perch and took off back down to the hen house. Sunny sat and sat until we picked him up and put him on the ground with a  special treat of Weetbix in milk, which he really loves. It was a challenge though, to get him to eat his fair share because Clementine was hot on his tail {literally!} and enjoys taking  advantage of his gentlemanly manner of letting the girls eat before he does.

Such a sweetie.

So that was our Christmassy chicken photo shoot. We really hope you enjoyed it.

Merry Christmas from our chickens to yours!
