my garage sale treasure kitchen cabinet

I’m in love with my new kitchen cabinet. We found this lovely piece of treasure at a local garage sale recently and I ummed and ahhhed about getting it the whole time we perused the little benches and tables of bric a brac. I knew I loved it. It was exactly what I had my heart set on putting in the open plan section of my house until my big old school locker came along (that was another garage sale treasure!) But surely, even thoguh that space was already filled,  I could find somewhere else to put it in my tiny little tin house?

But where?

And then my brain went into overdrive and I came up with a spot. I think this happened because it was time to leave the garage sale and I really couldn’t bear leaving without that cabinet. So, it now lives in the little living space that Lew hangs out in. It houses all of his gaming stuff and the TV sits on top. At first Lew wasn’t keen for the change. I knew he wouldn’t be. He’s a boy who really loathes change. But once we moved the old TV hutch out of there and popped this one in it’s place he slowly started getting used to the idea and could see how much more storage he was gaining for all of his gaming gear. So much more practical and ever so pretty, don’t you think?

I love the little ornate bit in the middle door panel and the pretty beading work along the top. The hinges are ornate too and I even love the mis-matching handle on the second drawer.

Some of the drawers and shelving spaces are lined in this funky 60’s wall paper. I love that too!

And I love the cute graffiti. There’s a story right there. Who is you and who is me? They loved each other? Or did they? Kids? Teenagers? Was the cupboard in their room? Where was their house? Was it around here or did it get moved from a far away place?

The stories this old kitchen treasure could tell if only it had a tongue. For now I’m happy just making them up.

Tell me, are you a garage sale kinda person? And if so, what’s been your latest find? I’d love to hear all about it.
